What makes this day different

A private Ephesus tour explores the best-preserved Roman city of the Mediterranean at your own pace — in at the Upper Gate, downhill along Curetes Street to the Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre, about 2.5 hours of walking on original marble. This full-day version then adds the three great sites in the hills around it: the frescoed Terrace Houses, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St John.

Pickup, and the road to the Upper Gate
We collect you at the port or your hotel and drive to Ephesus’ Upper Gate — entering here means the whole city unfolds downhill in front of you.
The civic city: Odeon, Town Hall, Domitian Square
The government quarter first: the little marble council chamber, the sacred hearth of the city, and the square where an emperor demanded worship.
Curetes Street to the Terrace Houses
Down the marble slope past the Temple of Hadrian and the Trajan Fountain. Halfway down we step into the Terrace Houses, where Roman wealth still has its wall paintings.
The Library of Celsus
The façade that launched a million photographs — and a tomb, a secret, and a very clever optical trick your guide will point out.
Marble Street and the Great Theatre
Past the world’s oldest advertisement to the 25,000-seat theatre where the silversmiths rioted against Paul (Acts 19).
Lunch and a local artisan visit
A proper sit-down lunch, and a visit to local artisans keeping an old craft alive — interesting, never pushy, and easy to decline.
The House of the Virgin Mary
Up into the pines to the small stone chapel where tradition holds Mary spent her last years — a quiet, moving place whatever you believe.
The Basilica of St John
We end on Ayasuluk Hill at the great ruined basilica Justinian built over John’s tomb, with Selçuk and the Artemis temple plain below.

How much walking is involved?

Inside Ephesus, about 3 km over 2.5–3 hours, nearly all gently downhill on original — sometimes slippery-smooth — marble. Good grippy shoes matter more than fitness. The other sites involve short, easy walks.

Is the Terrace Houses ticket worth it?

Emphatically yes — it is the single best-preserved thing in Ephesus, and because it needs a second ticket most coach groups skip it, which is exactly why you should not.

Can we adjust the route?

Freely. Skip a site, add the Ephesus Museum or the Temple of Artemis, spend longer at Mary’s house — the day is private, and the plan is a suggestion, not a script.
